As a leading provider of logistics apprenticeships we’re hugely excited about the findings of a Barclays-commissioned study that indicates not only a salary premium among apprentices over graduates, but also that the former group could stand to earn as much as 270% more than the latter over their lifetimes.
A bright future for apprentices across the board
Perhaps surprisingly, it is in three fields that are especially popular among university students – the arts, media and publishing – where the apprentice earning advantage is most pronounced, and for which the aforementioned 270% figure was recorded.
However, the statistics tell a similar story for other fields, with apprentices in agriculture, horticulture and animal care, for instance, enjoying 211% greater earnings over their career. When it is also considered that apprentices are spared from having to pay tuition fees and other university debts at the same time as enjoying the ‘hidden pay cheque’ that comes from earning while learning, it becomes clear why apprenticeships have gained such great acclaim and popularity in recent years.
Indeed, the apprenticeship intake has more than doubled in the last decade, with almost half a million people beginning an apprenticeship in the 2014/15 academic year. In short, now is the era of the apprenticeship, which should be heeded by many of those contemplating logistics apprenticeships in the years to come.
